1st & 2nd Class

September

September marked the start of a wonderful new school year with our First and Second Class pupils settling back into their school routine. After the lovely summer break we were excited to see all of our friends faces again and share our news about everything that we got up to during our time off! We met our new teacher and welcomed new staff members to our school community. We spent the month catching up with each other, having fun and adjusting back to school life.

First and Second Class - September

October

October was a jam packed month! We learned about respecting others differences and participated in the ‘Someone Like me’ art competition. We created our very own poster that targets creating an inclusive environment and celebrated everyone’s ‘Abilities’.

We also teamed up with Third and Fourth class to celebrate ‘Math’s Week’ in school. We had great fun working and learning with another class. We played fun practical math games and loved learning about decoding and encoding secret messages that we could create for our friends.

We were very happy to learn all about Hallowe’en and we loved creating our skeleton men and women during art to bring home to decorate the house.

November

Science Week in First and Second Class.

We teamed up with Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth to showcase our homemade science projects.

December

December was a very busy month for first and second class! We practiced a lot for our Christmas concert, perfecting the songs for our mummies and daddies to see us perform and we were amazing!

We had a few board game days were we teamed up with other classes in the school and had the opportunity to play with them, it was great fun.

Our main focus this month was completing all of our Christmas crafts. We created our very own snowy night using chalk – we learned to blend and smudge. We also were very excited to create our very own Christmas decoration with clay and cookie cutter stencils. We cannot wait to add it to our Christmas tree at home.

Our SNA’s treated us to some yummy hot chocolate and we watched a movie in our pajama’s with juniors and seniors. We wish we could come to school every day in our pajama’s. We we very lucky to go see a pantomime show called ‘Rapunzel’ in DCU in Dublin, we all loved how funny it was!

January

After a well needed Christmas break, we came back to school with a fun filled schedule. Our main focus this month was all about our family’s, more specifically, Grandparent’s Day. We had such a great time hosting this special event for our families. We practiced our prayers and songs, as well as making Rock’n’Roll art for our Rocking Grandparents.

Additionally, we learned about a new country this month to widen our knowledge of the world. We selected Spain as our country of focus and we loved completing a research project based on the country of Spain – Hola amigos.

In Numeracy we began to learn all about Data and Data collection. We dived in practically and collected our own data all about our friends in our class.
